A tribute to the era of open-cockpit biplanes and cross-country navigation, The Barnstormer Blend is a rugged, "no-fail" coffee. This is a traditional Cowboy Blend—designed to be strong, resilient, and dependable whether you're brewing on a taildragger’s wing or at a remote airstrip. It’s a full-throttle cup for those who need a high-energy "takeoff."
Flavor Notes & Tasting Profile
This blend is defined by its intensity and "zero-drag" smoothness.
- Aroma: Smoked mahogany, toasted nuts, and caramelized sugar.
- Primary Notes: Dark cocoa, roasted walnuts, and a hint of wild honey.
- Finish: Bold and smoky with a clean, dry finish—no bitter "turbulence."
- Body: Heavy and robust. It possesses the "structural integrity" to stand up to the strongest brewing methods.
Origin Details
- Regions: A strategic "formation" of beans from Central America and South America.
- Altitude: Multi-elevation blend (1,200 – 1,700 Meters ASL).
- Composition: This blend pairs the bright, acidic stability of high-altitude Colombian beans with the earthy, chocolatey base of Brazilian Arabicas.
Growth & Processing Method
- Method: Mixed Process (Washed & Natural). We blend Washed beans for clarity and "flight stability" with Naturally processed beans to add sweetness and body.
- Cultivation: Sustainably Farmed. The beans are sourced from estates that prioritize soil health and traditional farming cycles, ensuring a consistent flavor profile year after year.
- Roast Style: Post-Blending Roast. Each origin is roasted separately to its individual "peak performance" before being blended. This ensures the dark, smoky notes of the Cowboy roast don't sacrifice the underlying sweetness of the beans.
Brewing Recommendations
In the spirit of a true Cowboy Blend, this coffee is built for "field conditions."
- Best Choice: Percolator or Moka Pot. It thrives under high heat and immersion.
- Ratio: 1:14 (Coffee to Water) for maximum horsepower.
- Temp: 205°F (96°C)—don't be afraid to get it hot.
Pilot's Note: If you're brewing this "Cowboy Style" (grounds straight into the pot), add a crushed eggshell or a splash of cold water at the end of the boil. This helps the grounds settle to the bottom of the "fuselage" for a cleaner pour.
